Nana Knight Secures Release for Officer Facing Gunfire Charges
Nana Knight, the attorney representing San Jose police officer Timothy Lee Faye, played a key role in securing his release to a rehabilitation facility in Southern California. Faye, who is facing felony charges for two instances of reckless gunfire while allegedly intoxicated, had been held without bail at the Santa Clara County Main Jail. During a hearing on June 25, Knight argued that Faye should be allowed to attend a treatment center specializing in first responders, highlighting his long career and the mental health toll of police work. Despite objections from Deputy District Attorney Jason Malinsky, who raised concerns about the potential public safety risk of an unlocked facility, Judge L. Michael Clark sided with Knight’s request, allowing Faye’s release.

Knight emphasized Faye’s dedication to his 22-year career, explaining that officers often face trauma that can severely impact their mental health, leading to struggles like alcoholism. She also appealed for fair treatment and due process, stressing that Faye looked forward to his day in court. As part of his release, Faye will be monitored and required to wear a GPS device if he completes the rehab program.
The charges against Faye stem from two incidents in which he allegedly fired his handgun while intoxicated, including one in June 2023 at the home of an ex-girlfriend. Faye, who had a history of alcohol abuse linked to the stresses of his job, faces scrutiny for both his criminal actions and prior internal complaints related to his drinking. However, his attorney, Knight, continues to advocate for him, stressing the need for support and understanding rather than rushed judgment.
